Havana, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today welcomed the presence on the island of a brigade made up of men and women from various Latin American nations, as a sign of solidarity with the Cuban people.

On his Twitter account, the president stressed that the XXVII Latin American and Caribbean Solidarity Brigade “arrives after two years of inactivity due to Covid-19,” and that it is made up mostly of young people.

Díaz-Canel concludes his tweet by saying: “Welcome supportive friends”.

The 27th Latin American and Caribbean solidarity brigade, made up of over 80 people, was formed the day before at the Julio Antonio Mella international camp, in fields of the western province of Artemisa.

For 15 days, the brigaders will carry out productive work in agriculture as a solidarity contribution, they will hold meetings with the population of the provinces of Havana and Artemisa and will visit scientific centers and centers of historical interest.

They will also pay tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the 96th anniversary of his birth, which is celebrated on August 13.

In welcoming them, the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, thanked them for their support of the Cuban people at a time when the Caribbean nation is facing a complex situation caused largely by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of USA.

He pointed out that this policy generates discomfort and shortcomings for the population, but in the midst of these difficulties, “Cuba continues to fight and will continue to win.”
