Federation of Trade Unions of Lebanon to address strike

Libano
Beirut, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The Federation of Trade Unions of Lebanon will hold a meeting to address the strike of public sector employees resulting from the worsening of the economic and financial crisis.

The organization will agree on the steps to be followed to restore the rights of state workers after more than a month of indefinite unemployment prompted by the indifference of the Lebanese political authorities.

The director of the Association of Public Administration Employees, Nawal Nasr, stated that the strike will continue until a fair and equitable result has been reached for the workers, including family support, medical subsidies and education.

The Ministerial Commission to evaluate the repercussions of the financial crisis on the functioning of the institutions within the interim government supported last week granting additional economic assistance equivalent to the value of a full salary and a daily transport aid, provided that they go to work at least two days a week.

At the meeting of the acting cabinet, the officials agreed to deliver compensation for production in line with each effective day of attendance at the workplace in public administrations and in the State Employees Cooperative during the months of August and September.

The authorities agreed to provide an item to cover the medical and hospitalization expenses of the military forces, the Ministry of Public Health, the State Employees Cooperative and mutual funds, in addition to ensuring quotas belonging to the National Social Security Fund.

They also agreed to offer financial aid to the Lebanese University to administer its conditions and ensure the interests of the professors and the rest of the workers.
