Talks in Ecuador postponed until next week

Ecuador, gobierno, indígenas, diálogo, aplzamiento
Quito, Jul 20 (Prensa Latina) The talks between the Ecuadorian Government and the indigenous movement, which should have begun a new chapter this Wednesday, were postponed until next week, when pending issues will be resumed.

According to Leonidas Iza, president of the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE), one of the organizations participating in the talks, the technical tables will resume as of on Tuesday, July 26.

The leader of ancestral peoples confirmed that there are progress in the two initial tables, related to public and private banks, as well as fuel subsidies, on which there are still issues to be solved.

The CONAIE president added that in the next few days, the participants will analyze the point of speculation in the prices of products, which is a very sensitive issue for the whole country.

Iza also warned that the 10 technical tables established between the parties will conclude as planned, with or without agreements.

The talks began last week, as of an Act for Peace signed by the Executive and the CONAIE, the Council of Indigenous Evangelical Peoples and Organizations of Ecuador and the National Confederation of Peasant, Indigenous and Black Organizations, groups that convened a national strike from June 13 to 30.

The negotiations should end in October with results to the social demands, which unleashed territorial and national protests that lasted 18 days.
