Palestinian government calls on Biden to fulfill electoral promises

Ramallah, Jul 15 (Prensa Latina) Prime Minister of Palestine Muhammad Shtayyeh urged US President Joe Biden to fulfill his electoral promises and turn words into deeds on the ground.

According to the Al Quds news agency, the call was made during a meeting last night with President Mahmoud Abbas and several Palestinian figures prior to Biden’s arrival in the city of Bethlehem on Friday.

Shtayyeh affirmed that during the meeting with Biden, Abbas will demand the restart of a political process with Israel based on the two-state solution, and will also demand that Washington reopen its consulate in Jerusalem, closed by the Donald Trump administration, and the elimination of the Palestine Liberation Organization from the list of terrorist groups.

However, the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivam, stated days ago that Biden’s plans do not include promoting a new process of talks between the two parties.

Upon his arrival in Israel two days ago, Biden stated that the two-state solution is the best way to end the conflict, but stressed that it is not visible on the near future.

The Israeli news portal Ynet revealed on Thursday that Abbas and Biden will issue separate statements after their meeting, after the Palestinian denial of US demands to avoid a condemnation against Israel.

According to the site, the Palestinian authorities criticized parts of the document proposed by Washington, considering that it does not reflect “ethnic cleansing in Jerusalem or Israel’s aggression against Palestinian residents.”
