At a press conference, Dr. Guillermo Sequera, Director General of Health Surveillance, stated that the fourth wave of Covid-19 cases began to spread across the country.

He stated that Asunción and Central were towns with highest number of reported cases till last week, while in this new summary Alto Paraná, Caaguazú, Guairá, Cordillera, Caazapá, as well as Canindeyú, San Pedro, Concepción, Amambay, Itapúa, Paraguarí, Misiones and Presidente Hayes, were also included.

Concerning reinfections, Sequera explained that in the epidemiological week 25 (from June 19 to 25), 2,487 coronavirus cases were reported. ¨That means that, proportionally, it´s equivalent to 30% of cases, which are reinfections.

The specialist recalled the importance of respecting sanitary measures, such as wearing face masks, ventilation in indoor places and full vaccination as major prevention measure, since “it´s evident that the impact of hospitalizations and deaths is less when people are fully vaccinated,” he pointed out.

Data from the Expanded Immunization Program showed that 59% of Paraguayan people has received the first coronavirus dose, 52% the second dose, and 20% the third dose.
