Brasil, tribunal, electoral, Parlasur
Brasilia, Jul 1 (Prensa Latina) The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and the Mercosur Parliament (PARLASUR) on Friday agree on a series of procedures for the performance of an international observation mission in the October general elections in Brazil.

The agreement, signed by presidents Edson Fachin, of the TSE, and Tomas Enrique Bittar, of PARLASUR, sets out rights and obligations for both sides.

Their aim is to help improve the Brazilian electoral process, increase transparency and integrity and strengthen the public confidence in the election day.

In addition to PARLASUR, a body that represents the interests of the citizens of the nations that make up the Southern Common Market, the observation missions from the Organization of American States and the Electoral Network of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries were invited.

Speaking to foreign correspondents in a virtual conference on June 7, Fachin said that experts and authorities from European countries were invited to observe the elections.

Brazilians will cast their votes to elect the President of the Republic, state governors, senators, as well as federal, state and district lawmakers.

To date, former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva leads the polls for the next elections, in which far-right President Jair Bolsonaro hopes to be re-elected.
