Pro-peace activists conduct performance in Spain

ACTIVISTAS-CUADRO-GUERNIKA
Madrid, Jun 27 (Prensa Latina) Activists from the Extinction Rebellion and Youth for Climate movements conducted a performance before the Guernica painting in a call for peace.

The non-violent action took place at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, in the exhibition room of the painting, which was conceived by Pablo Picasso is in the face of Nazi-fascist barbarism against the town of Guernica, Basque Country.

About thirty activists collapsed on the ground simulating their deaths, while four of them, dressed in gala and pretending to be great leaders, toasted to the sound of Brahms’s Third Symphony.

The activists carried banners that read “War is the death of Art” and “Here the lords of war will meet”, denouncing that museums, cultural spaces, host a summit for war, regarding the meeting of the Atlantic Alliance 29th and 30th in Madrid.

However, the focal point of the peaceful protest was the gathering of over 40 delegations of members and supporters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization at a dinner at the Reina Sofía Museum and the Prado Museum.

After the action, representatives of the movements said that “security is not achieved with more weapons; the expansion of any army is not compatible with the defense of the planet and the security of citizens.”

They stressed that the involvement of the alliance in the defense of the southern border will be discussed during the summit, at a time when about 80 migrants were injured or killed by Moroccan border forces (in Melilla).

Rebellion Extinction and Fridays For Future pointed out that NATO has been a structure responsible for a form of development based on the dynamics of expropriation and overexploitation of the natural resources of the planet, and specifically of the Global South.
