Int’l Space station experiment could help fight AIDS

Celulas-Sida
Moscow, Jun 24 (Prensa Latina) Russia's Space Agency, Roscosmos, on Friday reported that the results of the Kristallizator (Crystallizer) experiment, which is being carried out on the International Space Station (ISS), could help create new drugs for the treatment of tuberculosis and AIDS.

According to RKK Energiya company representative Dmitry Pasyshin, more than 100 protein space structures were analyzed in the experiment, which could be used to achieve new drugs to fight those diseases, Roscosmos reported on its Telegram channel after a meeting of the Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In another part of the exchange, Evgeny Lupian, Deputy Director of the Russian Space Research Institute, said that if Russia and China joined forces in remote sensing, they could put together a constellation of satellites comparable in capacity to that of the United States and the European Union.

Coronavirus proteins were also cultured in the ISS with the aim of tackling Covid-19 by obtaining antiviral medicines.

The samples obtained will be used to better study their structure and the mechanisms of virus infection in the human body.
