The ship was launched at eastern Shanghai’s shipyard and will undergo mooring trials and sea trials in the next few days before officially coming into service.
It is China’s first domestically aircraft carrier and uses electromagnetic catapults, a system similar to those in the United States that will allow to launch a wider variety of ships with greater speed and more ammunition.
Its displacement is more than 80,000 tons and it is equipped with locking devices.
China’s first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, was an unfinished Soviet-era vessel brought from Ukraine in 1998, which upgraded and finally commissioned in 2012.
