Angel Aurelio de Leon, Javier Garcia and Jose Luis Garcia, members of the group, stated that the Agency was founded on June 16, 1959, at the initiative of Fidel Castro and Ernesto Che Guevara, and had the support of Argentinian journalist Jorge Ricardo Masetti, who was its first general director.

“The priorities of Prensa Latina were the events of the Cuban Revolution and the emancipation struggles of Latin America, it emerged to make another form of journalism, a courageous and daring journalism that manages to open way to truth, even knowing that the media fight against imperialism would be unequal,” they said.

Despite this inequality along these 63 years, Prensa Latina has a solid and modern structure that allows it to successfully insert itself in the complex and competitive world of the international news agencies, the authors of the text pointed out.
