A great number of people living in low-income countries have no tools to prevent, detect and treat Covid-19, for whom these are scarce goods, WHO’s Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom.
At a press conference, however, Dr. Adhanom acknowledged that the Covid-19 positive cases and deaths scaled down by over 90%, compared to peaks reported in early 2022.
A bunch of nations mitigated their health surveillance and testing systems, he remarked.
Two million Covid-19 cases reported per week is a big number and 6,400 deaths are too many, so we cannot close our eyes to such figures, Adhanom stressed.
The WHO’s Chief Epidemiologist, Maria van Kerkhove, asserted the Covid-19 pandemic “is not over” and the whole world cannot “rest on its laurels” after two years of pandemic.
