Putin to speak on anti-Russian sanctions at St. Petersburg Forum

Moscow, Jun 13 (Prensa Latina) The Kremlin's press officer, Dmitri Peskov, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak about the impact of the sanctions against Russia at the next St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

“We are seeing how all these restrictions, the imposed sanctions, are affecting the prices of energy, food, and others. We see the results of the mistakes made by many countries, which are manifested in the incipient food crisis,” he said.

According to the official, it is impossible not to address these issues, so “I am sure that the president will talk about it”. In this regard, he stated that Putin’s speech at the plenary session of the forum, on June 17th, will be extremely important.

Last week, the head of state sent a message to the participants and guests at the 25th edition of SPIEF, from June 15th to 18th, in which he assured that the 2020s will be a period of strengthening the economic sovereignty of Russia, which will prioritize international cooperation.

He stressed that among the objectives for the period is the accelerated development of the country’s infrastructure and technological base, the qualitative increase in the level of training of specialists and the creation of an independent and efficient financial system.

He also expressed his interest in having SPIEF continue to contribute significantly to the solution of many priority tasks of humanity and that its distinctive features always remain mutual trust, richness of content and the spirit of fruitful dialogue and partnership.

The head of state stressed the importance of stimulating trade and investment, promoting the joint development of technologies, strengthening financial and stock markets, as well as increasing the amounts of settlements in national currencies.

“It is important to introduce and develop a truly beneficial integration model, as is already done in the Eurasian Economic Union,” he said.
