BRICS to strengthen cooperation in multilateral trading systems

Beijing, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) The BRICS group agreed to strengthen cooperation in multilateral trading systems and in fields such as the digital economy, investments, sustainable development and the stability of the supply chain.

According to an official statement issued by China, these consensuses emerged from the 12th meeting between the economy and trade ministers of the bloc, made up of Brazil Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

The ministers also analyzed various issues related to the economy, as part of the preparations for the 14th summit of heads of state and government to be held this year.

During the meeting, China’s Deputy Prime Minister Hu Chuncha emphasized that the BRICS group constitutes an important force to promote regional and global growth, advocated jointly protecting multilateralism and supporting the reforms of the World Trade Organization.

He expressed China’s willingness to further open the doors of its market, align itself with international rules on commercial matters, advance further in the implementation of its initiative of the Belt and Silk Road and negotiate more free trade agreements.

He also invited to learn about the development opportunities offered by the country and explore new niches to expand cooperation for shared gain.

Gerd Müller, director general of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, spoke in favor on promoting fair and sustainable trade in the world, and on the role of this activity in achieving the common goals of development, social progress, protection environment and pollution reduction.

He also indicated that the work between his office and BRICS “can lead to new technologies, knowledge and innovation for other nations in the world.”
