Asunción, May 31 (Prensa Latina) The coalition of leftist parties and social movements in Paraguay, Frente Guasú, issued a statement in which it claims to trust the victory of the Historical Pact in Colombia's general elections.

We express our hope and fullest confidence in the victory of this progressive project in the second round of these elections, which will take place in a few weeks, the text refers.

The Paraguayan political formation also congratulated the Pact for its victory in the first electoral round, held this Sunday.

In the elections, the candidates for the presidency and vice-presidency of the Andean-Amazonian country for the progressive forces, Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez, respectively, led the vote with 40.32 percent of the valid ballots, followed by the independent Rodolfo Hernández, with 28.15 percentage points.

The Colombian electoral law establishes that for a victory in the first round, it is necessary to accumulate at least 50 percent plus one of the valid votes, a figure that was not reached by any of the contested formulas, hence the need for the ballot, called for the next June 19.

The document of the Paraguayan left-wing coalition highlights the democratic spirit with which the voting day took place and signifies the symbolic value of the Petro-Márquez binomial for that country.

They represent a light of hope in the democratization of Colombia, in the consolidation of a Latin American project, progressive, and that thinks about the solidary integration of all our peoples, the text specifies.
