Cuba’s ambassador, Carlos Miguel Pereira, reaffirmed his support for China’s position during an online meeting of the diplomatic corps with the High Commissioner of the United Nations Organization for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, who will be visiting China until May 28th.
“We celebrate the achievements made by China in the fight against poverty and its advances in recent decades in the economic and social areas. Similarly, we recognize its role as a leading actor and coordinator among developing countries and in terms of protection of human rights,” Pereira said.
The official highlighted Cuba’s commitment to the purposes of the UN Charter and adherence to the principles of universality, impartiality, objectivity and non-selectivity.
He also expressed hope that Michelle Bachelet’s visit to China can contribute to establishing, by mutual agreement, a good environment for cooperation and dialogue on human rights.
