The representatives of both countries held a meeting with the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, and promised to address all the points of controversy in order to reach an agreement.
“We have focused on the situation in the South Caucasus and on the development of the European Union’s relations with both countries, as well as with the region in general,” Michel said in a European Council statement.
According to the official, the debate was “frank and productive” and humanitarian issues were addressed, “including mine clearing, efforts to free prisoners and the fate of disappeared persons.”
As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that the respective Border Commissions will meet in the coming days to “delimit the territory and the best way to guarantee a stable situation,” the report states.
Likewise, the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan assured that they will unblock transportation and communication lines between the two countries and will advance in a peace treaty that will govern interstate relations.
For his part, the President of the European Council assured that the European Union will promote with both parties the work of the Economic Advisory Group, which aims to develop the economy of both countries, for the benefit of their populations.
