Support for the Historical Pact without reversal in Colombia

Support for the Historical Pact without reversal in Colombia
Bogotá, May 22 (Prensa Latina) There is only one week left today for the presidential elections in Colombia and the formula of the Historic Pact, made up of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez, is the favorite to win them.

About this process, Alirio Uribe, elected representative to the Chamber of Bogotá by this political force, made up of the most diverse social and political sectors, expressed optimism and concern to Prensa Latina at the same time.

“Everything indicates that we can win in the first round, we are very few points away from having half plus one of the vote. In Bogotá we have 55 percent of the intention to vote, so everything is ready for the next 29”, explained Uribe who is a member of the Polo Democrático Alternativo.

However, he assured that they are worried that they will win in the first round, but “uribismo (followers of former president Álvaro Uribe) will suddenly say that we committed fraud and that is why we are calling for action to be taken.”

“We have electoral juries, electoral witnesses and we know that we are going to win. Fico (Federico Gutiérrez of the right-wing Team for Colombia) froze, Uribe is now sending a vote for Rodolfo Hernández, but I think it is too late for them,” he explained. .

In this sense, he referred to the recent move on the electoral board in which the now former candidate Ingrid Betancourt renounced her presidential aspirations and expressed her support for Hernández, who the polls place him behind Petro, although at a considerable distance.

The Colombian lawyer and politician told Prensa Latina that he is concerned that the Uribistas will not accept the results of the elections on Sunday, May 29.

“The people are determined to change this country, there is no turning back, we are going to win, I think, in the first round, and if that were not the case, we are still going to win in the second round, and all the polls favor us,” he said.

Alirio Uribe, who was a member for 23 years of the José Alvear Restrepo lawyers’ collective, vice president of the International Federation for Human Rights from 1998 to 2006, was a judge of the permanent court of the peoples in ethical trials against foreign companies for human rights violations, He highlighted that people on the street say they are going to vote for Petro and France.

“The problem is that those who have governed for 200 years, who have created a mafia state, are not going to say that we won in a fair fight, so we call for international observers and organizations such as the United Nations, among others, to verify the transparency of the elections,” he emphasized.

In the elections scheduled for next Sunday, the electorate will choose the president and vice president of the country for the period 2022-2026.

The winning formula must obtain half plus one of the total valid votes, otherwise a second round will be held on June 19 between the two candidates with the highest number of votes.

Whoever obtains victory in these decisive elections will govern for a period of four years without the right to re-election.
