Cuban health professionals debated in Belgium on Cuba’s humanism

Brussels, May 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Doctor Nilda Corria and nurse Maribel Chacon ended their visit to Belgium, where they shared the humanism and solidarity of the Cuban Revolution with various local sectors and members of European institutions.

The Cuban healthcare professionals, who have participated in missions of the Henry Reeve contingent fighting Covid-19 around the world, spoke with Belgian parliamentarians, MEPs, members of the Party of the European Left, social and solidarity activists, and Cuban residents.

In addition to speaking about their experiences in other countries hit by the pandemic, Corria and Chacon discussed the vision of access to health as a fundamental right and the collective commitment to generate changes in society. They also participated in a meeting in the European Parliament on Cuban medical cooperation, organized by the Friendship Group with Cuba.

MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio thanked Cuba for its solidarity with Italy at a time when Covid-19 was hitting it hard on behalf of the compatriots who benefited from the support provided by Cuban doctors and specialists from the Henry Reeve contingent.

The Portuguese Euro deputy Joao Pimenta highlighted the example of cooperation and internationalism of Cuba and its people.

During an exchange of criteria with Belgian federal deputies, Corria and Chacon also thanked the support that the proposal to award the Nobel Peace Prize last year to the Henry Reeve contingent has garnered throughout the world.
