Our dear poet Fina García-Marruz is celebrating her birthday. Her renowned work, of extraordinary beauty, is among the most important in Latin American poetry, the Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, highlighted on his Twitter social network account.
Today is the 99th birthday of the great Cuban poet Fina García Marruz. Casa de las Américas is also celebrating its anniversary. Both celebrations in the middle of the International Book Fair. Happy coincidences of memory, culture, life, specified the director of the National Library of Cuba, Omar Valiño, in said social network.
Life partner of notable Cuban intellectual Cintio Vitier, the writer bequeathed a vast body of work committed to the ideology of National Hero José Martí and won several of the most important awards on the continent, such as the National Prize for Literature (1990), the Pablo Neruda Prize (2007), and the Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry (2011).
In her poetic work, the texts The Lost Gazes and Credits of Charlot stand out, winner of the Critics’ Award (1991), as well as The Family of Origins (1997); Darío, Martí and the germinal American (2001).
