Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received King Abdullah II of Jordan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, in Cairo on Sunday evening, Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a communique.

The three leaders stressed the importance of respecting the legal and historical status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem, and called for efforts to restore calm there after the recent escalation by Tel Aviv.

They also called on that country to halt measures that undermine the two-state solution and insisted on the need to resume the “serious and effective” negotiations to seek a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in accordance with international law.

According to Rady, another issue discussed was the crisis in Ukraine and the Arab world’s role in resolving the conflict.

In early April, an Arab League delegation traveled to Russia to meet with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and then to Poland, where it held talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

During their meeting in Cairo, the three leaders stressed the importance of prioritizing talks to seek a political solution to the war.
