Egypt calls for global cooperation to tackle climate change

Cairo, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) The Egyptian Minister of the Environment, Yasmine Fouad, stated that only international cooperation can counteract the effects of climate change, one of the serious problems humanity currently faces.

During a ceremony, the official highlighted the importance of the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), to be held next November in Egypt, the official Mena news agency reported.

Fouad stated that Egypt will work to guarantee the implementation of the results of the previous meeting, held a few months ago in Glasgow, Scotland, and to accelerate the pace of global actions on the issue.

The Minister met later with the executive director of the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Jan Noether, and said that COP27 will focus on climate adaptation, mitigation and financing.

In her words, the government of Egypt recently announced a series of incentives in various sectors, including electric transport and green hydrogen production.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry called earlier this month on developed countries to honor their promises to contribute $100 billion a year to nations with the least resources to combat climate change.

In an article published by the Al Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies, the foreign minister stressed that, however, this figure is much lower than what is necessary to counteract the problem.
