The meeting, started on March 28, brought together delegations from 33 countries, which held several working sessions aimed at assessing issues related to proposals for improving the agri-food systems of those peoples.
The first two days of the meeting were for senior officials, who made progress on proposals for greater efficiency and sustainability, in addition to contributing to the ministerial working plan.
On Wednesday, after an official opening ceremony led by President Guillermo Lasso, and FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, the ministers began their debates.
The agenda included the four improvements (production, nutrition, environment and life), the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the proposals to address the current crises in agriculture and the Multi-year Work Program of the Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean for 2022-2025.
The participants in the Conference also prepared the organization’s new Strategy on climate change, among other issues of interest.
The countries attending in the 37th FAO Regional Conference were Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Dominican Republic.
St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela, were also present.
