Cuba speeds up airport management, says Customs chief

Havana, Mar 24 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is presently applying a series of measures that have made it possible to significantly speed up the flow of passengers and cargo at the country's airports, a senior official from the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba said on Thursday.

Colonel Nelson Cordobés Reyes, chief of General Customs, pointed out among these measures the exemption from medicine and food tariff payment, simplification of customs controls and other services, advance in the digitalization of traveler’s declaration as well as the installation of modern equipment in airports.

All this has eased a remarkable improvement for services since the country reopened flight services at its main airports on November 15 following a long period of restrictions and border closures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking on Thursday´s Round Table TV program, Nelson Cordobés warned this does not imply a relaxation of security measures, since the country continues an in-depth selective control to avoid violations of Cuban laws.
