The campaign headed by the non-governmental organization (NGO) SODEPAZ and carried out with the leading role in general of the State Movement of Solidarity with Cuba (MESC) was closed this week with a last contribution of 43,881.45 euros from the Fons Català de Cooperació al Desenvolupament, the digital site Cubainformacion reported.
These funds are from several Catalan municipalities for the project “Syringes for Cuba: Support for the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in Havana,” which will be used to purchase more than half a million syringes, specifically 548,518, Jose Manzaneda, director of Cubainformacion, said.
The project was presented by the Casal d’amistat amb Cuba de Badalona, a solidarity organization integrated into the Defensem Cuba platform.
The source recalled that Cuba, which has been subjected to a strict economic, financial and commercial blockade by the United States since 1962, called for the international solidarity last year to advance the vaccination plans for its entire population, facing the need to purchase syringes and needles in a very short period of time.
This is the fourth shipment of the campaign “Tons of Solidarity against the blockade against Cuba”, which is being carried out across Spain and contains health and hospital materials, as well as surgical equipment for arthroscopy and laparoscopy.
