Palestinian prisoners in Israel call for solidarity with next strike

Ramallah, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) The Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli jails on Friday called on the population of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank to support the hunger strike they will begin on Friday, March 25, to demand their rights.

The Supreme National Emergency Committee, which groups the detainees from several Palestinian factions, ratified in a communique the new wave of protests against the punitive measures adopted against them.

For its part, the Palestinian Prisoners Club pointed out that the officials of the Israel Prison Service (IPS) began to meet with the detainees on Thursday in an attempt to dissuade them, but they denounced the campaign of repression in the prisons and considered the beginning of the hunger strike irrevocable.

The non-governmental organization affirmed that this new campaign of disobedience seeks to maintain the achievements reached during decades of struggle in the Israeli prisons.

Amjad al-Najjar, a spokesman for the Palestinian Prisoners Club, denounced on Thursday that the Tel Aviv Government plans to impose additional measures against thousands of Palestinians detained in its prisons.

Tension in those prisons escalated since September 2021, following the escape of six Palestinian prisoners from the Gilboa high-security jail.

Although they were caught after a massive manhunt, IPS officials implemented several punitive measures against the remaining detainees such as banning visits and reducing yard time, which led to clashes and strikes.
