Ethiopia increases humanitarian aid to Tigray’s regional state

Addis Ababa, Mar 18 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia has increased the transfer of food and other products to Tigray to mitigate the humanitarian emergencies that millions of citizens in that regional state are currently suffering, according to the National Disaster Risk Management Commission.

After several procedures and many efforts by the Government, 20 trucks have already begun to transport basic items along the Afar route, the Commission’s chairman Mitiku Kassa said.

Three tankers loaded with fuel also left Semera, the capital of Afar, for Mekelle, Tigray’s main town, the official explained in a public appearance.

Kassa commented that “through the air bridge flight from Addis Ababa to Mekelle, more than 11 agencies have so far transported 257,192 kilograms of medicines, medical supplies and foods, among other items.”

The World Health Organization requested approval to send 95 metric tons of medicines and medical supplies as of March 21 and the Ministry of Health sent a document on March 14 in which it supports this effort, he said.
