Kazakh president suggests changes to national political system

Nursultan, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday has suggested an analysis to change the national political model, in order to strengthen the powers in Parliament.

In his annual message to the nation, the president stated that the initiative seeks to guarantee the optimal balance of the institutions, as well as to contribute to the sustainable development of the Central Asian nation.

Tokayev insisted that the measure will increase the political competition and will establish equal conditions for all parties.

He also stated that as an example of the president’s responsibility to ensure equal opportunities for all citizens, the restructuring will prevent that the closest relatives of the head of State hold political posts or are appointed to positions in the quasi-public sector.

Among other initiatives, the president suggested to establish the Constitutional Court as an “important step in the construction of a just and lawful State.”

Tokayev also included in his proposals a new procedure for the formation of representative bodies, redistribution of power at different levels, an anti-corruption system and changes in the administrative-territorial division of the Republic.
