Twenty-seven young Colombians travel to Cuba to study medicine

Bogota, Mar 13 (Prensa Latina) Rodrigo Londoño, president of the Comunes Political Party, on Sunday highlighted the farewell to 27 Colombian youths who traveled to Cuba to study at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).

“Cuba is solidarity. Cuba is humanism,” the political leader said when referring to the scholarships granted to 1,000 young Colombians by virtue of the Peace Agreement to study this career.

The 27 youths traveled to Havana, where they will be included to the program of studies and practices of medicine, along with other Colombians who are already studying at higher levels.

In 2016, After the signing of the Agreement between the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the Government of President Juan Manuel Santos, on behalf of the State, Cuba granted 1,000 scholarships so that the former guerrillas and the victims of the conflict can study medicine, as a contribution to the peace process in this country.

Former Cuban Ambassador to Colombia Jose Luis Ponce, who recently completed his mission, made the offer at the Commission for the Follow-up, Promotion and Verification of the Implementation of the Final Peace Agreement (CSIVI) to the leadership of the former FARC-EP and the Government representatives at the Commission.

Cuba was the venue of the peace talks for more than four years, until 2016, and along with Norway, it also acted as a guarantor for the bilateral talks.
