Located in the extreme southeast of the country, the province is the furthest behind in the execution of the works foreseen in the integrated intervention plan in the municipalities (PIIM), one of the main initiatives undertaken by the State to address the historical territorial asymmetries in the country.

Evidence of the prevailing situation was exposed by Governor José Martins in an analysis presided over by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, with live broadcasts on public television.

Martins thanked the possibility of exchanging directly with the president and the ministers, who watched a video on important works in the province.

The official pointed out the problems in aspects such as the construction of houses, highways, aqueduct networks, electrical and telecommunications infrastructure; as well as the absence of banks and fuel stations in several municipalities.

The official also lamented the existence of half-finished investments aimed at providing the province with a soccer stadium, a university center in Cuito Cuanavale and new health facilities in order to respond to the demand for care services.

He referred to the constructions that have remained unfinished for years, without use value and significant economic losses should they continue to be abandoned, as “white elephants”. However, he pointed to the fact that more than 60 percent of the 1,932 projects eligible for the implementation of the PIIM are being executed on a national scale, of which 1,686 are part of the Public Investment Program and 246 correspond to expenses to support the development, the Executive said.
