While the United States and Canada stopped buying fuel from Russia, the head of German diplomacy explained that her country cannot follow their example.
The situation in Berlin is different, because we do not produce much oil and one-third of the fuel comes from Russia, Baerbock noted.
If we stop them now, in a few days we won’t be able to transport ourselves, she added.
The move comes after Western countries adopted a series of sanctions against Russia in response to its military operation in Ukraine.
For his part, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak predicted on Monday that rejection of Russian oil “will have catastrophic consequences for the world market.”
A rise in prices will be unpredictable: more than 300 dollars per barrel, if not more, he said.
