The presidents of Cuba Linda, Didier Lalande, and France Cuba, Didier Philippe, confirmed to Prensa Latina their support for the “Containers for Cuba” operation, which was announced last September by the CGT Railwaymen, together with a political campaign to denounce the United States blockade against Cuba.
Both organizations ratified their condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by Washington for more than six decades.
As part of their support for the solidarity campaign, Lalande and Philippe attended a meeting over the weekend in Lyon, organized by the Young Railwaymen trade union in that French city to collect funds to send containers.
The presidents of Cuba Linda and France Cuba spoke at the forum to address the devastating consequences of the blockade on the daily lives of the Cuban people.
Also present at the meeting were CGT Railwaymen Secretary General Laurent Brun and local leaders of the Confederation, and participants debated on the US blockade, its impact and the need to combat it.
Brun told Prensa Latina in late January that they have gathered dozens of tons of donations as part of the “Containers for Cuba” operation.
According to the trade unionist, more than twenty CGT organizations are enrolled in the solidarity campaign, which in a first shipment plans to send foodstuffs such as oil, flour and canned food.
