He denounced Tel Aviv’s plans to change the demography in that locality and in East Jerusalem in general.

Hafez stressed that the strategy is a blatant violation of international law, to which he urged the United Nations and the rest of the world to protect the Palestinian people.

Tension in Sheikh Jarrah escalated over the weekend following the decision by far-right Israeli lawmaker Itamar Ben Givr to set up his office there, which unleashed angry protests from Palestinians.
