Mexico, Feb 15 (Prensa Latina) Mexico reached the third consecutive week of reduction of Covid-19, with figures above 40 percent and even the last one of 48, informed today the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo Lopez-Gatell.

Speaking at the morning press conference at the National Palace, the official explained that the intensity of incidence of new cases is below previous levels, and only 1.6 percent are active, compared to 8.9 which was the maximum reached in the current fourth wave.

In terms of optimizing treatment of the pandemic, he noted, there has been a clear reduction in hospitalization with fewer people being treated per available bed. Mortality is also decreasing with a sustained trend in the 32 federal entities, including the capital.

Regarding children and adolescents, as mentioned above, the upturn was not due to school attendance, since it occurred during the holiday period at the beginning of winter. Only 0.12 percent of the schools were affected and were temporarily closed, a minimal number.

He informed that they continue to vaccinate all age groups without leaving anyone behind, especially the coverage in the most remote areas of the country and we insist with people who refuse to get vaccinated and we show them the importance of doing so because this is a fourth wave of sick people who have not been vaccinated.

For his part, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was pleased with the participation of the people that made Mexico rank ninth in the world out of nearly 200 countries, and 25th in deaths, below Italy and Brazil.
