Ethiopia urges EU to condemn Tigray Front’s attacks

Addis Ababa, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopia has urged the European Union (EU) to condemn the attacks on the state of Afar by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF), which it accused of obstructing the humanitarian efforts carried out to date.

The Union and the entire international community should hold the Front responsible for its aggressions against that region, Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen said during a meeting with EU Special Representative for the Horn of Africa Annette Weber.

Mekonnen commented that the TPLF “has hindered the actions promoted so far by the Government to bring humanitarian aid to millions of citizens and ensure peace in the north of the country.”

So far, the Ethiopian Government has taken several positive steps to achieve a lasting peace across the territory and this needs the due recognition by the organization, Mekonnen, who is also a Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed.

Weber and Mekonnen, the text adds, also addressed the work done by the African Union to achieve a definitive peace in the so-called Horn of Africa and guarantee the success of the negotiation between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
