The meeting, which combines virtual participants with face-to-face, sends a very positive signal about the need for physical encounters between people, but also about the potential of technology to amplify debates in universities and among academics, Francesc Pedró told Prensa Latina, director of the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 2022 University Congress takes place since Monday to next Friday with a program that has brought together professors, students and researchers from more than thirty countries, who discuss the role of higher education in development sustainability, among other issues.

Pedró held a dialogue with José Ramón Saborido, Minister of Higher Education of Cuba, in which both highlighted the advances of the Caribbean nation in the connectivity of society and its impact on academic processes.

The renowned Spanish researcher will give a conference during the sessions of the Congress, in which he will speak on the contribution of universities to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 (SDG 2030), one of the topics that will focus the debates of the III World Congress of Higher Education, which will take place in Barcelona, ​​Spain, next May.

In this regard, the researcher said that this international event will contribute to establishing a UNESCO agenda for higher education in a decade from the evaluation of the contribution of universities to the achievement of the SDGs 2030.
