According to several SMSs from WHO on Twitter, Covid-19 triggered an infodemic worldwide: lots of information, but not always reliable.
For such a reason, WHO makes use of separate social media platforms to fight misinformation and provide people with accurate public health advice.
Since March 2020, WHO has been using an interactive chatbot on Rakuten Viber that aims to bring news about Covid-19 to people in multiple languages.
Partnership with Rakuten Viber gives WHO the possibility to reach over one billion people in their local language directly through their mobile phones.
“WHO’s goal is to reach as many people as possible providing reliable health information through innovative digital technology. Information is powerful and can help save lives during this pandemic,” said WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
