Foreign Minister presented Venezuelan initiatives favoring HHRR

Caracas, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia today highlighted the initiatives adopted by Venezuela in favor of human rights, presenting the country's candidacy to the Council of the United Nations Organization in that area.

Plasencia emphasized the Bolivarian Executive’s willingness to collaborate with the office of High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet, to design permanent mechanisms to implement the recommendations made by international organizations.

During the presentation of the country’s report in the third Universal Periodic Review of the Human Rights Council, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy indicated that representatives of the high official’s office provided technical support in more than 10 State agencies, including the National Assembly and the Ombudsman’s Office.

He also recalled that Venezuela promotes compliance with international agreements to ensure respect, protection and effective fulfillment of the rights of migrants and their families, regardless of their status.

In this sense, Foreign Minister Plasencia mentioned the implementation of the Plan Back to the Homeland, designed to protect the rights of Venezuelan migrants in vulnerable situations in host nations, and through which around 30,000 compatriots have benefited.

For his part, the sectoral vice president for Social and Territorial Socialism, Mervin Maldonado, stressed that the Government of Venezuela prioritizes the social protection of the people despite the impact of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States.

During his speech, Maldonado highlighted that in terms of health, the country has 13,617 popular clinics, 593 comprehensive community health areas, 572 Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers, 586 rehabilitation rooms, 35 high-tech centers and 294 hospitals nationwide.

During 2021, these infrastructures made it possible to carry out more than 62 million medical consultations, 332 thousand 649 surgical interventions in the hospital and outpatient network, as well as the application of more than 12 million 914 thousand vaccines to the child population against 11 diseases.

Regarding the Covid-19 pandemic, the also Minister of Youth and Sports highlighted the immunization of 95 percent of Venezuelans, in addition to the full recovery of 97 percent of patients infected with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, in addition to registering one of the lowest mortality rates in the world.

In terms of food, Maldonado highlighted the South American nation has 36,000 Local Supply and Production Committees that serve more than seven million families by distributing food at subsidized prices, in order to alleviate the impact of coercive measures from the United States.

Earlier, the Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, denounced before the UN Human Rights Council the effects caused by the so-called sanctions on the full enjoyment of human rights of the Venezuelan people.
