Venezuela installs commission to nominate TSJ magistrates

venezuela-parlamento
Caracas, Jan 21 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly (AN, parliament) of Venezuela installed today the Preliminary Commission of Judicial Nominations that will select the candidates for magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

Said panel will be in charge of receiving proposals from civil society candidates for seven days, informed the president of the entity, deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello Cimadevilla.

The parliamentarian explained that between this Friday and Monday, January 24, the notice will be published in three national newspapers, on the AN website and in the accounts of the preliminary committee on social networks.

Alessandrello announced this action is added to the work of consolidating the re-institutionalization of the Venezuelan State and is also part of the judicial revolution.

The day before, the president of the parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, recalled that the legislature approved last Tuesday a reform of the Organic Law of the TSJ that, among other things, reduced from 32 to 20 the number of magistrates that make up the high court and the first task is the formation of this Preliminary Nominations Committee.

This last body will subsequently proceed to appoint the magistrates as well as the inspector of the TSJ.
