According to Daily Grafic newspaper and other sources, the blast occurred in the last few hours between the towns of Bogoso and Bawdie, when the truck collided with a motorcycle and a third vehicle.

National television footage showed infrastructures, among them residences, destroyed or damaged due to the strong detonation.

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah reported that of 59 injured, 42 are receiving medical treatment at a hospital near the scene of the tragedy.

Following the explosion, President Nana Akufo-Addo conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and said he had already instructed authorities to help with resources the local residents affected by the unfortunate incident.
