Tourism Excellence Award for Cuban historian

Camagüey, Cuba, Jan 20 (Prensa Latina) Close to a quarter century of life, the Office of the Historian of Camagüey (OHCC), a patrimonial city of Cuba, today has the privilege of being directed by José Rodríguez, who deserved the 2021 Tourism Excellence Award .

This year’s International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur) served as the stage for a jury of personalities from around the world dedicated to Tourism, Art and Gastronomy, to determine the distinction for the only Cuban chosen from a long list of participants.

The OHCC website refers that Rodríguez is given “such an award in recognition of his career of over 20 years marking the cultural, economic and social life of Camagüey.”

Led by its director, the Office itself stands out in the field of tourism, significant management in terms of impact with the purpose of transforming the Historic Center of the city, a World Heritage Site, into a potential destination, linked to cultural and city tourism .

Precisely the specialist and his body of work are already preparing the celebrations for the institution’s birthday, next February 2, a date that coincides with the day of culture of this city founded by the Spanish on that date of 1514.

With regard to actions related to preserving heritage in this area of the Caribbean geography, the OHCC is preparing for the end of February a new edition of the Challenge, Handling and Management of Heritage Cities event, which will take place precisely in this Cuban town located 540 kilometers east of Havana.
