The Cuban diplomat recalled in the videoconference addressed to young Indians from several fields the visit made by Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara to New Delhi in 1959 and the meeting held in New York in 1960 between the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and then Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, which laid the foundations of friendship and bilateral cooperation.
Himadrish Suwan, Chairman of CYL and Director-General at IIGL, noted that as the Covid-19 pandemic spreads human suffering, infects the global economy and disrupts people’s lives, the world needs more than ever solidarity, hope and will to overcome this crisis.
In this regard, Suwan encouraged the Indian youth audience, among them academicians, businessmen, researchers, students and media, to strengthen the development of the multifaceted relationship between India and Cuba. During the interactive session, the Cuban diplomat answered questions on the socio-economic, cultural and sports progress of the Caribbean nation since the triumph of the Revolution in 1959, despite the genocidal economic blockade imposed by the US Government.
Simancas also pointed out the possibilities of expanding economic, commercial and cultural ties between the two countries and peoples.
