Iran calls for UN action on US over killing of Qassem Soleimani

Irán, ONU, acciones, Qassem-Soleimani, asesinato
Tehran, Jan 2 (Prensa Latina) Iran has called on the United Nations to take formal action against the United States for the assassination of its General Qassem Soleimani two years ago (January 3, 2020), the HispanTV network reported Sunday.

Iranian government sent this request to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) recalling the prohibition of States in actions harmful to peace and security.

Iran says General Qassem Soleimani, the then-commander of the elite Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was in Iraq’s capital Baghdad on a diplomatic mission when his convoy was destroyed by missiles fired from a US drone.

Former US President Donald Trump boasted of this crime, claiming intellectual responsibility for the killing.

The UN should take legal steps to condemn the killings of officials and diplomats in order to prevent them from this happening afresh.

The text also regrets that the international community remained silent ahead of the US impunity through its extreme unilateralism politics.

For such a reason, it warned, peace will be in even greater danger if perpetrators of the terrorist attack on General Qassem Soleimani are largely free.

Along with the Iranian general, eight other officers were killed including Deputy Commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (Al-Hashad Al-Shabi) Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes.
