Kabul, Dec 18 (Prensa Latina) The Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaqi, and an accompanying delegation left today for Pakistan for the extraordinary ministerial meeting of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The meeting will be held tomorrow Sunday in Islamabad to discuss the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan and ways to avoid the deterioration of the economic situation in that Central Asian country.

Speaking to the press at the Kabul airport, Muttaqi said that his delegation will discuss future relations with the countries participating in the meeting.

“This is the first time that Islamic countries have held such a meeting on Afghanistan. Our concrete demands on the world are that humanitarian aid and political support be provided,” Muttaqi said.

The Taliban foreign minister further affirmed that international recognition is a legitimate right of the current government, adding that Islamic countries should invest in Afghanistan and establish good relations.

For his part, Nazir Kabiri, Vice Minister of Finance, asserted that an economic plan was sent to the OCI meeting, in which they request the creation of a trust fund for development and infrastructure projects in Afghanistan.

According to Kabiri, about 40 Islamic countries and organizations will attend the conclave.

Pakistan said it invited the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, the European Union and other international bodies for the meeting, which will take place as Afghanistan faces a serious economic and humanitarian crisis.
