Cuba reiterates in Egypt commitment to fighting corruption
Cairo, Dec 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Comptroller General Gladys Bejerano on Tuesday highlighted her government's commitment to fighting corruption with citizen's participation, despite difficulties aggravated by the United States blockade.

The national assessment of the risks of money laundering, financing of terrorism and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction are policies adopted as part of the prevention of this scourge, Bejerano said when speaking at an international meeting on the subject that is taking place in the Egyptian seaside resort of Sharm El-Sheikh.

The State’s strategy to deal with acts of corruption guarantees citizens’ rights and protection in terms of directing complaints and petitions to State bodies and their obligation to offer them responses, she stressed at the 9th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

Cubans are living under difficult circumstances, aggravated by the criminal blockade by the United States, but it will never renounce the fulfillment of its international commitments, nor its development, nor its plans to achieve peace, justice and the well-being of its people, she noted.

Bejerano highlighted that Cuba successfully concluded the two cycles of the examination of the application of the Convention, in which it demonstrated its commitment to fight corruption, she noted.

We reaffirm our support for the objectives and purposes of the UNCAC, and its examination mechanism, in particular its intergovernmental, non-punitive nature, based on cooperation and exchange of experiences and good practices, she stated.
