NFU President Marcelo Constante and his AFC counterpart, Oliet Rodriguez, signed the agreement virtually.
They did so “inspired by the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation that exist between the peoples of the two nations,” according to the document.
Among its main aspects are the recommendations and advice on Cuban soccer, contracts and negotiation with players and the exchange of professionals in that sport.
It also envisions the coordination and support of the presence of the Cuban U20 team in Uruguay in 2022, training of young talents so that they can be integrated into Uruguayan teams and the training of coaches in Cuba.
Constante expressed to Prensa Latina the interest in following the performance of Cuban players to empower them.
After the signing of the protocol, the counselor of the Cuban Embassy here, Ezequiel Diaz, recognized the Uruguayan counterpart to reach what he called the starting point, after passing through the pandemic, of a promising cooperation in soccer and in rapprochement between the two peoples.
Together with Rodriguez in Havana were the director of ProCuba, Roberto Berrio, and authorities from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER).
