According to Latakia Governor Amer Ismail Hilal, firefighters managed to put out the fires set in containers and noted that the damages were only materials.
Footage released on social media showed burnt goods, disproving Israel’s allegations of having attacked containers with weapons destined to Syrian army allies.
According to analysts, this is the first time Israel attacks vital commercial facilities in Syria and at a site located just six kilometers from the Russian air base at Hmeimim, in Latakia.
Israel has staged this year about 40 airstrikes on Syrian targets, the previous one occurred on November 24 on several sites in the Syrian province of Homs, in which two people were killed and eight others were injured.
The Syrian Government has condemned those actions and deplored the United Nations’ silence in the face of these actions, as well as ratified the legitimate right to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the national territory by all legitimate means.
