Last September, the Institute for Development and Peace Studies (Indepaz) revealed in its report on gender that 123 women leaders and human rights advocates have been murdered in this country during the government of Iván Duque.

Indepaz also details that, since the signing of the Peace Agreement in 2016 until August 30 of this year, 174 Colombian women who fight for the defense of communities, territories and the environment have been assassinated.

It also specifies that from January 1st to the 9th of this month in Colombia 19 women social leaders were murdered, according to Indepaz in its registry of cases.

The reiterated call of Congressman Valencia takes place in the context of the International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders and those who work for the protection of women.

The date is dedicated to the recognition of women who, individually or collectively, work to put into practice the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and it was declared during the First International Consultation of Women Human Rights Defenders held in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in 2005 and has been celebrated every year since November 29, 2006.
