Damascus, nov 24 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Tourism Minister Mohamed Martini announced today a plan to recover the sector by 2030, which is mainly focused on boosting popular and cultural tourism.

The plan also covers fields like tourism training and ensuring work opportunities for graduates of schools and institutes of the specialty, the official said at a press conference held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information.

He stressed that there are great opportunities for tourism investment in Syria which would produce more than 100,000 jobs by 2030.

On the other hand, he revealed that 488 thousand foreigners visited the country during the current year. Presently they work to make 2022 the best since the beginning of the war unleashed against the nation in 2011.

He also confirmed the Ministry received requests from tour offices and agencies in European countries to send tourist groups to Syria.

Martini further explained that 45 projects, previously put on hold for different reasons, will finally come to completion, in addition to proposing other 40 during the Tourism Investment Meeting, planned to be held in March.

In 2010, the year before war began in Syria, the country received 8.5 million tourists, and the sector’s income represented nine percent of the Gross Domestic Product, afterwards the number of visitors fell by 98 percent.
