Bogota, Nov 24 (Prensa Latina) United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Wednesday takes part in the solemn ceremony for the 5th anniversary of the signing of the Peace Accord that put an end to the armed conflict in Colombia.

At the ceremony, the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (JEP), the Truth Commission and the Unit for the Search for Missing Persons showed the country and the international community a result of their work.

They are also highlighting the major moments since the negotiated solution to the armed conflict that left millions of victims.

“The Final Peace Agreement is a legal, political and ethical reality and the Integral System for Peace, as a core part of the Agreement, could have make progress in its tasks thanks to the support of the international community, and especially thanks to the commitment and the United Nations’ political and technical support,” the JEP stated in a communique.

It added that Guterres is visiting this country to endorse this process.

In this regard, the UN chief will meet, before the ceremony, with the highest representatives of those bodies.

Guterres’ visit takes place in the same year in which the Security Council unanimously announced that the UN Verification Mission will support monitoring the compliance with the own or restorative sanctions imposed by the JEP to those who provide truth and acknowledge responsibility, the text added.

Former President Juan Manuel Santos, president of the Comunes (Commons) party Rodrigo Londoño, victims of the conflict, members of the high courts and representatives of the diplomatic staff accredited in Colombia will participate in the commemorative act.

Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and former President of the Spanish Government Felipe Gonzalez will be present at the commemoration through video messages, the JEP stated.
