The special representative of the Secretary General and head of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia, Carlos Ruiz, stressed that Guterres’s visit is a message for the country to keep on the path of peace and reconciliation.
During his two-day visit to Colombia, Guterres will meet with the Verification Mission, as well as representatives of UN agencies, funds and programs present in Colombia.
Later on, Colombian President Ivan Duque and Guterres will visit in the department of Antioquia, the former Territorial Space for Training and Reincorporation of Llanogrande in the municipality of Dabeiba.
There, he will also meet with president of the Comunes (Commons) party and signatory of the Agreement, Rodrigo Londoño.
The UN chief will also travel to Apartado municipality to learn about the progress of the Development Program from a Territorial Approach (PDET) in that Colombian region, and will attend as well an event commemorating the peace process.
In the capital, he will hold several meetings with the leadership of the three institutions of the transitional Justice System, representatives of civil society, victims of the armed conflict and leaders of the former FARC-EP.
Guterres will also visit the ‘La Paz is productive’ fair in Bolivar Square and will participate in the commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Final Peace Agreement to be held at the headquarters of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace on Wednesday.
